Ritchie Blackmore once said, &ldquo;Music should be something that moves, stimulates and excites you.&rdquo; Coincidentally, for fan and guitarist Ravi Iyer, Blackmore happens to be one of his biggest musical influences, having inspired him to pick up the guitar.

Keeping this in mind, on August 27 at Rule 34 in Kandivli, the Ravi Iyer Collective, Claver 5150 Experience and Alok &amp; The Sukhi Aatmaas will come together for a night dedicated to rock.

Talking to Iyer about the night, he said, &ldquo;The set will include Black Sabbath&rsquo;s War Pigs, Sweet Leaf and Symptoms of the Universe, along with Deep Purple&rsquo;s Space Truckin&rsquo;, and many more,&rdquo; adding, &ldquo;Black Sabbath&rsquo;s Paranoid turned me into a lifelong fan and the audience can expect the closest experience of vintage rock music that belonged to the golden era.&rdquo;
<h2>Maya, the page-turner</h2>

Filmmaker Anand Gandhi, known for Ship of Theseus and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/entertainment/bollywood-news/article/tumbbad-movie-review-re-release-mythology-horror-sohum-shah-23395071" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Tumbbad</a>, along with game designer Zain Memon, creator of SHASN and AZADI, are now embarking on their first literary journey with their new book Maya: Seed Takes Root, (Authors Equity) a science-fantasy novel about power, control and stories that shape lives. Set amid artificial intelligence and big data, the book follows characters living under Maya, a network that predicts their futures and shapes their choices.

The novel is set to be released on August 25. For Memon, the story is not about a hero, but about systems that influence people and resistance. &ldquo;This isn&rsquo;t another chosen story. It is about the systemic nature of control and the unexpected places where resistance takes root,&rdquo; he admitted as the book marks its first step into fiction and a new world of storytelling.

This diarist recently caught a few hockey duels on the telly, from the ongoing FIH Hockey World Cup co-hosted by The Netherlands and Belgium. An interesting pattern emerged during the women&rsquo;s match on Tuesday between India and <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/news/world-news/article/south-africa-marks-70-years-of-historic-womens-march-against-apartheid-23643856" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">South Africa</a>.

Punjabi artiste Sukhbir&rsquo;s chartbuster Ishq Tera Tadpave (2013) played on loop whenever the Indian women scored a goal in their 6-1 demolition of South Africa in Amstelveen, The Netherlands. Curiously, when the South Africans opened their tally, we didn&rsquo;t hear any music! When the final hooter went off, the track was replayed, much to the delight of the desis in the stands. That&rsquo;s what we call desi ishq across the seven seas.&nbsp;

This Sunday, choreographer Avit Dias will premiere his latest musical, Hanv Portuguese, at the Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana to showcase the next evolution in the long tradition of Konkani musicals.

"It has been a long journey, and a return to my roots," shared co-director Dias, who began his journey with Bandra's very own Carl Mendes. The musical delves into the subject of traditional families and touches on the roots, traditions, and migrations of the Goan community.
Surprisingly, most of the cast are non-actors. &ldquo;The cast is mainly made of non-actors, and they only rehearsed for a month. I reached out to people on social media, and was surprised when I got responses from Virar to Kurla to Colaba,&rdquo; Dias told this diarist.&nbsp;
