Young guns ready to fashion fire The young and the restless along with the bold and the beautiful were all there as Lakme Fashion Week Summer/Resort 2015 kicked off at Palladium Hotel on Wednesday afternoon.

When the young ones start the show, you are sure to see the established designers and celebrated couturiers take notice. They were all there taking note of what Gen Next had in store and perhaps sensing competition soon.
Seated in the front row at the first show and keenly following the fresh fashion across the long ramp were Manish Malhotra, Anita Dongre, Nachiket Barve and Asmita Marwa. Naturally, fashion store and boutique owners were also following all the action. Seen were Sangita Sinh Kathiwada, Falguni Jhaveri, Aparna Badlani and Azmina Rahimtoola. They were taking note of whom to stock in their multi-designer stores.
Of course, there are also the show-starters, meaning fashionable or celebrity guests who are requested to pose in the beginning on the ramp, before they take up their front-row places. Watching it all was Anil Chopra who started it all 15 years ago.

This Sunday, March 22, it is a repeat. One will see volleyball, box cricket, badminton and a host of other games being hosted at the same venue. There is also a Mumbai marathon-style 'Dream Run'. The marathon will be a 3.75 km race comprising three rounds from Ruia College signal to Maheshwari Udyan and back. Marathon registration takes place on Friday, March 20 evening between 6 to 9 pm under the flyover.
The closing ceremony will see the forming of a human chain with a message of : 'Unity'. This event titled, 'Festival under the bridge' will adopt the motto for a human chain, &ldquo;We are stronger during crisis, united against evil, and available for those who need us.&rdquo; Fun &lsquo;n&rsquo; philosophy let&rsquo;s drink to that Matunga Martini.
Bet on kindness at this tote Top of the line cars rolled into the Mahalaxmi race course parking lot, creating a bit of a jam near the Mini Turf Club. Doors opened and out came pedicured feet, all moving towards an exhibition called Smart Mart, yesterday. The ladeeeeeez who lunch were out for a day of shopping, but all for a cause, of course.

With charity taking on different forms and exploring myriad avenues, exhibitions have become increasingly popular ways of raising funds. So, it was a mix of enterprise and good intentions as women sailed into Mahalaxmi&rsquo;s Tote on the Turf for the well-known NGO Maharashtra State Women&rsquo;s Council (MSWC) &lsquo;Smart Mart&rsquo; event.

Proceeds from the stalls that were sold at the racecourse venue to entrepreneurs, go towards projects for underprivileged women and children, under the MSWC umbrella. Several NGOs had got a space to exhibit and sell their wares.
As the commercial capital of the country, proved money talks (all that crisp crackling of currency) there was a lot to cheer about too, as the initiative lived up to its tagline: &lsquo;The mart with a heart&rsquo;. More and more such events are taking place across the city, with a focus on fundraising for the needy. We can only say: more power to this cocktail of commerce and kindness.
