Football tourney with a cause The Don Bosco institution is popular for its football prowess. So it&rsquo;s apt that one of its ancillaries, Don Bosco Centre for Learning, is organising an eight-a-side football tournament, to be played on Sundays between February 14 and March 13, at the Don Bosco ground, Kurla.

This edition of the tournament has been dedicated to the seven students &mdash; Taha Shaikh, Sharjeel Shaikh, Akash Thapar, Brian Fernando, Sajid Chaudhary, Irvin D&rsquo;Souza and Bernadette D&rsquo;Souza &mdash; of the Kurla institute, who were among the eight that perished in a fire at Hotel City Kinara in October last year.

Entries are restricted to the first 16 teams from the MDFA Elite, Super and First Divisions on a first come first serve basis.

The autobiographical work, In Other Words (Penguin India) marks the author&rsquo;s non-fiction debut. It is written in Italian, and investigates the process of learning to express oneself in another language. Lahiri&rsquo;s love for the Italian language first emerged during a trip to Florence, after college.
Although she studied the language for years later, she wasn&rsquo;t able to master it. So, in 2012, she decided to move to Rome where she began to read, and write solely in Italian. The book has been translated from its original Italian version by Ann Goldstein.

Today is World Wetlands Day For most of us, wetlands have come to represent a piece of land that breeds mosquitoes. But they serve a very critical purpose in nature.

They purify water from pollutants and waste, maintain reserves of ground water, and act as shock absorbers by safeguarding land during erosion and floods. Wetlands are also important for biodiversity, providing a home to thousands of freshwater species.
To create awareness of the green marshlands and to promote conservation, February 2 is celebrated globally as World Wetlands Day. In aamchi Mumbai, the folks at Maharashtra Nature Park near Dharavi Bus Depot are organising a special photo exhibition (8 am to 5 pm) on wetlands to help convey the importance of their conservation. The photographs will be on view till February 14.
