Akki and Duggu do their bit Come September 25, and the United Nations will launch a new campaign called The Global Goals Campaign. As a part of it, the organisation aims to raise awareness about different sustainable ideas for a better world.

One of the ways to promote this campaign is through a crowd-sourced video called We The People, which will feature names such as Robert Redford, Stephen Hawking, Malala Yousafzai, Jennifer Lopez, Jennifer Lawrence and many more.

Where IMAGE matters For five long seconds, there was a stunned silence at Escobar last Sunday, where the iVolunteer awards ceremony was held. Of 37 entries, volunteers from the IMAGE (Indian Mixed Ability Group Events) project by Indiability, an NGO that works to change attitudes towards people with physical disabilities in India, won the Leader in volunteer engagement trophy.

The project started at school level, partnering with regular schools and schools for disabled children to play a sport together. Sneh Gupta, IMAGE project&rsquo;s co-founder and director of Indiability, introduced an awareness programme in the villages surrounding Jodhpur, including Bhawad, Kelawa, Khari and Jajiwar.
&ldquo;The 15-18-year-old volunteers (those with and without disability) educate rural folks on disability, health, hygiene and gender sensibility through sports and play,&rdquo; she adds. For example, polio is transmitted through fecal oral route and most villages have an open defecation system.
Through a game of stepping stones (or land and water) the volunteers point out safe and unsafe grounds, and how diseases like polio, cholera and hepatitis spread. &ldquo;The first time, we were told to go back home. But, the second session changed the story around as kids called the volunteers &lsquo;bhaiya&rsquo; and &lsquo;didi&rsquo;,&rdquo; she adds.
