Mumbai: Govt centres to be shut for Covid-19 vaccinations on May 15 and 16, says BMC

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Friday announced that vaccination will be closed at all MCGM/ public centres on Saturday and Sunday (May 15 and 16). Private hospitals, however, will have their independent schedules.


The civic body made the announcement on its official Twitter handle.



Earlier, BMC had announced that walk-in vaccinations will be allowed for citizens aged above 60 years in centres near their residences from Monday to Wednesday (May 17 to 19). They had also informed via a tweet that vaccinations will be done after registration on Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The centres were supposed to be shut on Sunday.

Meanwhile, after a letter from the Centre, the interval between two doses of Covishield has been revised to 12 to 16 weeks from the earlier six to eight weeks.

Since last month, the vaccine drive in the city has been hit due to shortage of doses. BMC also had to suspend the drive and keep many of the nearly 175 centres shut for the last few days due to unavailability of vaccines.

On Friday, Mumbai 1,657 infections cases and 62 deaths, said BMC. The caseload in the country's financial capital rose to 6,85,705 and death toll stands at 14,138.
