A 30-year-old security guard at a <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-bank-employee-arrested-by-gurugram-police-for-opening-fake-accounts-for-fraudsters-to-meet-his-targets-23350417" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">construction site</a> was attacked by a history-sheeter for not allowing him and his brother to meet the developer of the project, an official said on Wednesday, reported PTI.
According to the Powai police official, victim Imran Akbar Khan was assaulted with a sharp weapon by accused Lalu, alias Mubarak Momin Khan, reported PTI.
Few days ago, Lalu and his brother Amin Pathan arrived at the construction site in the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/maharashtra-82-year-old-nri-cheated-of-rs-32-lakh-3-booked-by-navi-mumbai-police-23350337" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">city's Powai area</a> and demanded to meet the builder to extort money from him, the official said, reported news agency PTI.
When the guard did not let them in, Lalu attacked him with a knife. He and his brother then fled the scene. An injured Imran was rushed to a nearby hospital, he said.
The Powai police have registered a case against Lalu for attempt to murder, extortion and other charges under the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-15-year-old-girl-allegedly-kidnapped-raped-in-goregaon-case-filed-23350330" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Indian Penal Code</a>. Lalu already faces multiple FIRs, while Amin is an accused in a case registered under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), he said, adding that efforts are on to nab the attacker, reported PTI.
In another case, police on Sunday arrested a 44-year-old man and his son, both street vendors, for allegedly trying to kill two persons following a quarrel over a banana in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-crime-news/article/mumbai-police-on-alert-after-caller-warns-of-bomb-blast-at-dadar-eatery-23350053" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Maharashtra's Thane district</a>, an official said, reported PTI.
A 27-year-old man, who is a mandap decorator, and his friend purchased a dozen bananas from the vendors in Bhiwandi town on Saturday and made the payment for it.
However, the man's friend later picked up an extra banana from the vendors' basket which led to a quarrel between the two sides, the official from Narpoli police station said, reported PTI.
The person who picked up the banana offered to pay for it, but the argument escalated following which the two vendors allegedly thrashed the two men with iron rods and threatened them with dire consequences if they were seen there again, he said, reported PTI.
Based on a complaint by one of the victims, the police registered an FIR against the two vendors late Saturday night under Indian Penal Code sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (common intention).
Both the accused were arrested on Sunday, the police added.
