A two-wheeler rider was knocked down by an unidentified speeding vehicle on the Western Express Highway, near Vile Parle on Saturday. The Vile Parle police station has registered a case against an unidentified vehicle driver.

Bhalaram Chaudhary, a sub-contractor with the BMC, was on his way back to his Dahisar home on his bike when a speeding vehicle knocked him down between the Vile Parle footover bridge and the Hanuman Road underpass on WEH. The driver of the unidentified vehicle drove from the spot without bothering to take the victim to the hospital.
Chaudhary died on the spot and the body was later taken to the Cooper Hospital mortuary. The deceased is survived by a wife and two young children, aged 5 years and 3 years.
The accident took place between 12.10 and 12.30 am.
It should be noted that the location where the accident took place has been reported to be accident prone, as vehicles usually speed during the night hours. &ldquo;The Vile Parle police station has registered a case against an unidentified person for causing death due to negligence and rash driving and we are in search of the of the driver,&rdquo; said an official from the police control room.
More than 50 friends and relatives of Chaudhary , where the postmortem was conducted. The body of the deceased was taken to his native place in Rajasthan on Saturday afternoon.
Prakash Chaudhary, a friend of the deceased, said, &ldquo;He usually wore a helmet and I feel that police officials should check for CCTV cameras near the spot where the accident took place. We want the culprit to be caught soon.&rdquo;
