A 38-year-old lady assistant police inspector, who has been missing for almost 18 months, is yet to be traced by the police. The family is questioning the police, alleging that they are delaying the investigation. Also, a suspect, another police inspector, who was questioned by the police, is roaming free. According to the police, Ashwini Raju Gore alias Ashwini Bidre, 37, resided in Roadpali in Kalamboli, Navi Mumbai. She is originally from Kolhapur where her family, including her husband, Raju Gore, and her daughter, live.

Ashwini was working in the Human Rights Commission department of Navi Mumbai. The complainant in the case was Anand Jaykumar Bidre, 34, Ashwini's brother, who resides in Kolhapur. Bidre claims that the incident took place between April 2016 and January 2017. A case was registered at Kalamboli police station on January 31 under section 323, 364 (A), 497, 506 (2) and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Bidre and main suspect, Abhay Kurundkar, 52, who is presently posted at the special branch of Thane rural police, met at the Sangli Training Centre. After Ashwini went missing, her husband, Raju Gore, stumbled upon a call recording while going through her things, where Kurundkar can be heard talking to Ashwini. Anand in his complaint had alleged that Kurundkar got in touch with Ashwini, and lured her with marriage promises and asked her to leave her family. He alleged that since Ashwini was forcing Kurundkar into marriage, he fought with her and threatened to kill her. Further, Anand claimed that on April 11, 2016, Ashwini was kidnapped by Kurundkar along with his associates. She was later killed and dumped somewhere. Kurundkar then allegedly made a plan to hide the evidence and sent a WhatsApp message from Ashwini's mobile phone saying that she is going for some work to Uttar Pradesh for five to six days.
Gore also alleges Kurundkar's involvement in the case, as he was in regular touch with her. After the issue got talked about, Kurundkar went on long leave and after a year, returned and joined Thane rural police. The family members claim that even though Ashwini was a police officer, the police have failed to trace her, and have forgotten about her. Kurundkar, who is the main suspect in the case, was never arrested. Prakash Nilewad, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Panvel, who is investigating the case, said, "A case was registered regarding the same more than a year ago and investigation is still going on." Kurundkar claims that the case was registered against him in January 2017 and, for investigation purposes, he had presented himself before the Navi Mumbai police 10 to 12 times.
"The family is unnecessarily defaming me, but the police are investigating the matter and have till date, not found any evidence against me. It's a false charge. I have filed a writ petition in the high court that the family has filed a false case against me and the case should be closed now," Abhay said.
