Mumbai: Injured senior citizen in hit-and-run case dies

On September 6, a 91-year-old senior citizen who was injured in a hit-and-run case near Eastern Freeway tunnel on September 5, succumbed to his injuries in Sion hospital

On September 6, a 91-year-old senior citizen who was injured in a hit-and-run case near Eastern Freeway tunnel on September 5, succumbed to his injuries in Sion hospital.


The RCF cops have filed a case against unknown persons and are checking CCTV footage to establish the identity of the driver. The deceased had left his son's house and was on his way to his village when the incident occured. 



On September 3, the 91-year-old Nawab Gulab Sheikh left his son Mohammed’s home. After a couple of hours, Mohammed received a call from an unknown number identifying himself as a cop. Mohammed was informed that at the Eastern Freeway tunnel, an unidentified vehicle hit his father.


Nawab was rushed to the Sion hospital by the local police.

“We rushed to the Sion hospital and found my father in serious condition. The police told us that while my father was waiting at Panjrapol tunnel, a vehicle hit him” said Mohammed in his statement to the police. 

On Wednesday afternoon around 1.30 pm, Nawab succumbed to the injuries in hospital.

“An FIR was registered at RCF police station under IPC section 279 (rash driving) 304A (death due to negligence), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and relevant sections of Motor Vehicle Act 1988 against unknown motorist” said Murlidhar Karpe, Senior Inspector of RCF police station.
