In a major outbreak, the Khar Police have arrested two accused, including a 17-year-old juvenile, for stealing motorcycles from the Khar Danda area. The officials have also recovered a total of five stolen Honda Activa scooters valued at over Rs 2 lakh.

According to the police, the case was registered based on a complaint by Premdutt Udayveer Sharma (58), a catering professional residing near Shankar Vyayam Shala, Khar Danda, Mumbai.

Earlier on October 5, at around 11:30 PM, Sharma had parked his white Honda Activa in front of the Shankar Vyayam Shala and returned home. The next morning at around 6:00 am, he found that his vehicle was missing and later filed a complaint at the Khar Police Station after searching the area in vain.

Following the FIR, under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Sanjeev Dhumal and Police Inspector (Crime) Vaibhav Katkar, detection officer PSI Hanmant Kumbhare and his team launched an investigation to find the accused.

The police further analysed CCTV footage from the area, which revealed that two suspects committed the theft. After identifying their route and obtaining clear images of the accused, police traced them to the Khar Danda locality. While acting on a tip-off, the team detained both the accused near the Pimpleshwar Hanuman Temple at Khar Danda.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mayuresh Maruti Nivate (19), a resident of Shivdarshan Galli, Ghazdarbhand, Santacruz (West), and a 17-year-old juvenile.

Investigation Findings

During the interrogation, the accused confessed to stealing old-model Honda Activa scooters using duplicate keys during the night. They further said that they would drive them around until the fuel ran out and abandon them elsewhere.

Based on their statements, the police recovered five motorcycles from them. The investigation was carried out by the detection team comprising PSI Hanmant Kumbhare, Police Naik Kundan Kadam, Police Constables Mahesh Lahamge, Namdev Sawant, Nitin Kolekar, Vishal Bhamre, and Sumit Ahivale, under the supervision of Senior PI Sanjeev Dhumal and PI (Crime) Vaibhav Katkar.
