A 22 year-old labourer was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside a labour camp at a building construction site at CST road in Kalina on Monday.
The victim has been identified as Raj Sukumar Manna, and his body has been sent to post-mortem to a civic-run hospital.
The incident came to light after a building watchman, who came to know about the incident, informed a passerby. With the help of the latter, he rang up the Mumbai Police control room. When cops reached the spot, they found the victim's body lying on the ground with bloodstains, and a dupatta tightened on the roof.
According to BKC police sources, heavy bloodstains were seen on the spot, indicating that it may be a case of murder. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone VIII Virendra Mishra said, &ldquo;On the basis of primary information, an Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered, but it will be converted into murder if the medical report indicates so.&rdquo;
Investigation officer Vijay Kadam added, &ldquo;While bloodstains were seen at the stop, no weapon has been found. It is very early to say anything now.&rdquo;
Curiously, none of the labourers or contractors were present at the spot when cops reached there to conduct the spot 'Panchnama'.
Sources from BKC police revealed that the victim died at around 8.00 pm and cops were informed after four hours. &ldquo;The security in-charge Dharmendra Nishad came to know about the dead body, but was chatting with labourers outside the room. He knows everything, but he is not co-operating in the police investigation,&rdquo; the source alleged.
No one has been detained or arrested so far as cops are awaiting the medical report.
