Indian Railways has prioritised the manufacture of 238 air-conditioned Electric Multiple Unit (AC EMU) rakes for Mumbai's suburban railway network, with the first trainsets expected to be supplied from 2027, an official statement said on Thursday.

The move is aimed at ensuring that adequate rolling stock is available alongside the commissioning of infrastructure under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP).
