The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC) on Tuesday said that it has successfully completed and commissioned a new 6-metre-wide South Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Bhandup Station for Mumbai local train passengers.

It said that the newly opened FOB will offer major relief to commuters and easing congestion during rush hours.

"Located at the CSMT end of Bhandup Station, the new bridge connects all platforms (1,2/3, and 4) and the East side of the station, providing smoother east-west movement for passengers," an official statement said.

The 66-metre-long FOB, built at a cost of approximately Rs 6 crore, includes staircases (2.5 to 3 metres wide) on each platform and on the East side for easier access, it said.

The bridge will soon be linked with a 9.5-metre-wide elevated deck currently under construction on platform No. 1 and a proposed 5-metre-wide skywalk on the East side. Once these connections are complete, the entire system will form a seamless network linking all FOBs at the station and the BMC skywalk at the Kalyan end, the statement said.

The integrated design aims to improve passenger movement, enhance safety, and reduce overcrowding, particularly during peak travel hours.

MRVC stated that the project reflects its commitment to modernising Mumbai’s suburban rail infrastructure and creating accessible and commuter-friendly facilities, it said.
