<p>The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-local-train-update-mrvc-completes-rs-551-crore-trespass-control-project-23645079" rel="nofollow">Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation Ltd. (MRVC)</a> has undertaken major infrastructure development works at six EMU carsheds across Mumbai's suburban railway network under MUTP-IIIA.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As per the officials, the project aims at expanding and augmenting maintenance capacity for longer suburban train rakes.</p>
<p>While issuing an official statement, MRVC said that the works are being carried out at Kurla, Kalwa and Sanpada carsheds on Central Railway and Mumbai Central, Kandivali and Virar carsheds on Western Railway.</p>
<h2>Central Railway to carry out developmental work worth Rs 425 crore&nbsp;</h2>
<p>On Central Railway, civil infrastructure development works for capacity expansion have been taken up at Kurla, Kalwa and Sanpada carsheds at a combined estimated cost of approximately Rs 425 crore.</p>
<h2>The estimated cost of the individual projects is:</h2>
<ul>
<li>Kurla car shed: Rs 139 crore</li>
<li>Kalwa carshed: Rs 138 crore</li>
<li>Sanpada carshed: Rs 148 crore</li>
</ul>
<p>The stipulated completion period for the civil infrastructure works is 24 months.</p>
<p>In addition, Electrical (general services) works are also being undertaken at the three <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mrvc-launches-study-to-make-mumbai-metro-local-train-transfers-seamless-23643377" rel="nofollow">Central Railway</a> carsheds to augment maintenance facilities for 15-coach rakes, up from the existing capacity for 12-coach rakes. These works have a combined tender value of approximately Rs 40 crore.</p>
<h2>Western Railway to carry out development work worth Rs 159 crore</h2>
<p>On Western Railway, infrastructure development works have been taken up at Mumbai Central, Kandivali and Virar car sheds at a combined estimated cost of approximately Rs 159 crore.</p>
<p>These works also have a stipulated completion period of 24 months and are aimed at strengthening the maintenance infrastructure required for the suburban railway network.</p>
<h2>Focus on longer suburban rakes</h2>
<p>According to the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-mrvc-builds-waterproof-subway-in-bhiwandi-to-tackle-monsoon-flooding-23629594" rel="nofollow">car shed augmentation</a> is aimed at strengthening Mumbai's suburban railway maintenance infrastructure and increasing its capacity to handle longer suburban rakes.</p>
<p>Moreover, the upgraded facilities are expected to provide essential maintenance support as the capacity of the Mumbai suburban railway network is progressively augmented that aims at better facilities for the commuters.</p>
<p>The development of these six carsheds under MUTP-IIIA is therefore an important component of efforts to improve the supporting infrastructure required to operate and maintain an expanded suburban rail fleet across Mumbai.</p>
