Mumbai: Maharashtra govt assures hike, taxi-auto unions call off strike

Unions say govt has agreed to hike the fares of taxi to Rs 28 and auto to Rs 23

Taxi and auto unions said on Friday they were withdrawing the call for strike after the government assured them of a fare hike. The unions have demanded the minimum fare for taxis be raised by Rs 3 to Rs 28 and for autos by Rs 2 to Rs 23.
A meeting of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Transport Authority (MMRTA) to endorse the decision has been scheduled on Monday.
