The Malwani Police team in Mumbai was felicitated by Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti. The police officials were felicitated for their commendable efforts in swiftly solving the rape and murder case of a woman on Marve Road, officials said on Sunday.

The Malwani police had in September discovered the body of a woman in a semi-nude condition near Malwani church.  Police identified the body as that of a 46-year-old, who was reportedly a sex worker. Police said that after examining the incident and looking at the condition of the body, it is being speculated that she was strangled to death. After preparing the panchnama, the body was sent for post-mortem examination.

After extensive investigations, the Malwani Police had arrested a man for murdering the 45-year-old woman.

The investigations had reveled that the murder took place following a dispute over money.

The accused allegedly strangled her with a dupatta after a heated argument inside an auto, dumped the body in a secluded shed near Malwani Church, and fled to his native village in Agra.

The arrested accused has been identified as Chandrapol Ramkhiladi Singh alias Neta, 34.

According to investigators, on the night of the crime, the victim was soliciting customers near a petrol pump on Marve Road. The accused, who had been in Mumbai for barely 20 days and was driving an auto-rickshaw without a valid license, approached her. After negotiating for Rs 600, he took her to a deserted stretch on Lagoon Road, where they attempted intercourse inside his auto-rickshaw.

During the felicitation ceremony, Commissioner Bharti also lauded the exemplary work of the police officers. The Mumbai Police Commissioner further highlighted their professionalism and prompt action in bringing the perpetrators to justice.

Police Inspector Jeevan Bhatkule, Assistant Police Inspector Prathamesh Vikhare, and their team received special recognition for their dedicated investigation.

Appreciating their efforts, Police Commissioner Deven Bharti further stated that the swift and efficient handling of such sensitive cases reinforces public trust in the police force, an official said.

The recognition stands as a testament to the Mumbai Police’s commitment to ensuring justice and maintaining safety in the city, an official said.
