A 32-year-old man died by suicide at his residence in Mumbai after allegedly being blackmailed and extorted for Rs 2.40 crore over a period of 18 months. The victim reportedly consumed poison on July 5 and left behind a three-page suicide note naming two individuals responsible for his death.
The police have registered a case against the two accused and launched an investigation into the incident.
According to police officials, the deceased alleged in his note that the two men had recorded obscene videos of him and used them to repeatedly extort large sums of money. The note detailed how the ongoing harassment pushed him to take the extreme step.
Speaking to Mid-Day, DCP Maneesh Kalwaniya (Zone 8) said, “We have registered an FIR against two people in this matter. They blackmailed the man and extorted around Rs 2.40 crore from him. We have also collected bank records that confirm the transfer of funds. A suicide note recovered from the victim's residence names the two individuals responsible.”
The police are currently verifying the contents of the note and gathering additional evidence, including financial transactions and digital records.
