A massive fire broke out in an AC bus operated by the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) in Kandivali area of Mumbai on Tuesday.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

Videos of the blaze showed flames spreading rapidly at the bus that was seen parked on the side of a road in Kandivali.

According to preliminary information, the Mumbai Fire Brigade said that a fire broke out in a CNG-operated bus run by the BEST on Tuesday night in Kandivali East. No injuries were reported, and all passengers were safely evacuated.

The incident was reported at 9.10 pm on February 17, 2026.

Bus caught fire at WEH

The fire occurred on the Western Express Highway, near Sai Dham Mandir in Kandivali (East).

The bus was operating on Route No. 289, travelling from Kandivali Station to Anita Nagar, officials said.

"All passengers were removed from the bus immediately after the fire was noticed. There were no reports of injuries," officials said.

Bus was being taken to depot

The bus was being taken to the depot for repairs when it suddenly caught fire.

The bus is operated on lease by the Daga Group for the BEST.

Officials said that the bus had developed a technical fault and was being taken to Magathane Depot for repairs.

It was without passengers at the time of the incident. While on its way to the depot for technical maintenance, the bus caught fire near the Sai Dham bus stop.

Civic officials rushed to the spot

Teams from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, local police and BEST traffic officials were mobilised to the scene. Firefighters worked to control the blaze and ensure that it did not spread to nearby vehicles.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and further details were awaited.
