A speeding Mercedes car veered out of control and ran over a pavement in south Mumbai's Mohammad Ali road last night at around 12:45 am, inuring five people who were sleeping there, police said on Friday.

Four of the victims were identified as Munira Shaikh, 25, Rajul Moinuddin Shaikh, 4, Alisha Shaikh, 40, and Rashida Shaikh, 20.

They were admitted to Sir JJ Hospital with multiple fractures and other injuries, police said.

A case has been registered at Pydhonie Police Station.
