Maharashtra’s Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Monday told the officials to complete all pending works of Metro Line 9 by December 15 and Line 4 by year-end.
Sarnaik directed the officials to complete the works by December and bring major relief to commuters in Maharashtra's Thane and Mira-Bhayandar, officials said.
An official statement said that the instructions to officials were given by Sarnaik during a high-level meeting held at the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) office.
Senior officials including MMRDA Additional Commissioner Ashwinikumar Mudgal, Thane Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao, and Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Commissioner Radha Vinod Sharma were present during the high-level meeting on Monday, it said.
"Thane and Mira-Bhayandar residents may soon see their long-awaited Metro projects become a reality, as Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has directed that Metro Line 9 be operational by December 15 and Metro Line 4 by December 31," the official statement said.
The statement said that during the meeting, various infrastructure projects in the Thane and Mira-Bhayandar regions were reviewed.
Sarnaik instructed that the 10.32 km service road from Kapurbawdi to Gaimukh, part of the Ghodbunder Road stretch, should be concretised and merged with the main road by December 31.
He also stressed on the urgent completion of internal roads, especially the concreting of the road between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Statue and Maharana Pratap Statue in Mira-Bhayandar.
To prevent future encroachments and maintain clean surroundings, the Minister suggested that gardens and beautification be developed under metro bridges, following the Nagpur Metro model. He proposed that maintenance contracts be given to agencies in exchange for advertisement rights to ensure long-term upkeep, the statement said.
It said that during the discussion, car shed projects at Dongri and Mogharpada were also reviewed.
"The meeting also included a review of metro car shed projects at Dongri and Mogharpada. Sarnaik suggested that new metro stations in Thane and Mira-Bhayandar be named after the original villages in those locations, to preserve local heritage and culture," the statement said.
Sarnaik recommended that upcoming metro stations in Thane and Mira-Bhayandar should be named after local villages, preserving the local culture and identity., it said.
