On its first day of extended run of 14 hours, Mumbai's Monorail carried 15,016 commuters. Revenue generation from the extended monorail service for the day stood at Rs 1,32,368.
Wednesday was the first day of Monorail&rsquo;s extended run from 6 am to 8 p.m. which until Tuesday was being operated from 7 am. to 3 pm.

While the maximum numbers of commuters (5,329) boarded the Monorail at Chembur, Wadala recorded 3,636 commuters. The other stations that documented considerable footfalls are Bharat Petroleum (1,792), Fertilizer Township (1,471) and VNP &amp; RC Marg Junction (1,056). Bhakti Park and Mysore Colony stations accounted for 957 and 775 commuters respectively. In all, 14,686 tokens were sold along with 22 SmartCards. The rest of the 308 commuters travelled on SmartCards purchased previously. &ldquo;With most of the exams over, the possibility of a number of families leaving the city for vacations cannot be ruled out and could be the reason for the reduced number of commuters&rdquo;, Dilip Kawatkar, Joint Project Director (PR), said.
