Three days of incessant rain that left large parts of Navi Mumbai waterlogged has prompted the municipal corporation to launch a citywide safety crackdown, with Mayor Sujata Patil ordering immediate action against officials found negligent in two incidents that have sparked public outrage.
After personally inspecting rain-hit areas from Belapur to Digha on Wednesday, the mayor chaired an emergency review meeting with Municipal Commissioner Dr Kailas Shinde, Deputy Mayor Dashrath Bhagat, and senior civic officials, directing them to plug safety lapses before more heavy rain hits the city.
