Unauthorised parking under the Panvel City flyover has forced the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) to invite tenders for the beautification of this space. The 2.5 km-long flyover built by the MSRDC has had unauthorised parking on its open spaces since it was inaugurated in the year 2012.

Tourist taxis and road construction machinery can be seen stationed under the end of the flyover near Gandhi Hospital. In order to prevent further such encroachments, the MSRDC has invited an Expression Of Interest (EOI) for the beautification and maintenance of the space under the Panvel flyover on sponsorship basis.

The sponsor will be allowed to display the company logo and name at locations approved by MSDRC. As per a state government General Resolution, parking vehicles under flyovers is banned throughout the state. Amit Randive, a resident of Panvel, said, &ldquo;Ever since the flyover was inaugurated, the open space under it has become the favourite place of beggars and drug peddlers.
Tourist vehicles are also crammed under the flyover, making it an unpleasant sight.&rdquo; Speaking to mid-day, Anil Diggikar, vice-chairman and managing director, MSRDC, confirmed, &ldquo;We have invited tenders for the beautification of the space under the flyover, so that the menace of unauthorised parking will be put to an end. Even the state government has issued a GR banning parking under flyovers.&rdquo;
