In a remarkable operation, the Naigaon Police have arrested a murder accused who had been absconding for nearly five months. The accused has been identified as Sunil Kharpat Prajapati (35). Sunil was traced and arrested from a ship docked at Okha Port in Dwarka, Gujarat, where he had been hiding to evade the arrest.

According to the police officials, "The incident occurred on May 7, 2025, at Senorji Highseal Company, Kaman, Vasai (East), where both the deceased, Dilip Saroj, and the accused, Sunil Prajapati, worked as labourers. The company owner, Prakash Dhunkar Chamariya, had transferred money into Sunil’s account for food expenses meant for both workers. However, Sunil allegedly withheld the amount from Dilip, leading to a heated argument between them."

In a fit of rage, the accused allegedly attacked Dilip with a sharp object, striking him on the head, eyes, and right hand, causing severe injuries. Following the attacks made on him by the accused, Dilip succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

Following the incident, a case was registered at Naigaon Police Station at Vasai under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC 2023), and a murder charge was subsequently added.

Given the gravity of the crime, Police Commissioner Nikhil Kadam formed two special teams from the Crime Detection Branch to track down the accused. Acting on reliable intelligence, the team discovered that Sunil was hiding under a false identity on a ship at Okha Port.
