Cops who were waiting to answer the call of duty at the Mumbai Police control room were instead kept busy with booty calls all night after a prankster dialled the 100 helpline at least 125 times and abused the call handlers.
It started at 10 pm on the night of November 11. Every time a woman took the call, the caller would say things like, &ldquo;Will you have sex with me?&rdquo; But even the male call handlers weren&rsquo;t spared &mdash;not only did the caller abuse them, but he also joked about having sex with their wife or girlfriend.
Around 12.30 am, one of the staffers complained to a senior, and this opened the floodgates. One after another, several staffers came forward and admitted that they too had received a similar call. When the call log was checked, it was revealed that the same pervert had made at least 125 calls.
The control room informed the Azad maidan police about the incident, and a case was registered against the unidentified caller. The police are trying to track him down through his mobile number. &ldquo;We don&rsquo;t yet know whether he was drunk or just doing it to create mischief, but he used really rough language. Whenever a woman answered the call, he would pass lewd comments and talk about sex. He also abused the male staffers,&rdquo; said said one officer.
Based on the account of the woman staffer who complained, the offence was registered under Section 509 (outraging the modesty of a woman) of the IPC and relevant sections of the IT Act. &ldquo;We have the number &mdash; it is registered in another state, but we are confidant that we will arrest him,&rdquo; the officer added.
