Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a prohibitory order aimed to prevent the breach of peace, protect human life and property, and maintain public order in the region. Commissioner of Police, Mumbai, Vishal Thakur, issued the prohibitory orders under the Maharashtra Police Act, 1951.
“Whereas, on the basis of information received from various sources, there is a possibility of breach of peace and public order and there is serious risk of loss of human life and property.

“Accordingly, it is considered expedient to issue prohibitory orders prohibiting the movement and unlawful assembly of five or more persons in the area under the control of the Commissioner of Police, to prevent disturbance of public peace and danger to human life and damage to property and any riot.”
The restrictions are effective from January 23, 2024, at 00:01 hrs, until February 6, 2024, at 24:00 hrs, covering a 15-day period, the Mumbai Police Commissioner said.
Restrictions have been imposed on the following:
1) Prohibition of any assembly of five or more persons
2) Any procession of any person
3) Any use of loudspeakers, musical instruments, musical instruments and bursting of firecrackers in any procession is exempted from the prohibition contained in the order as follows.

(a) All types of marriage ceremonies etc.
(b) Funeral meetings and processions en route to crematoriums / burial grounds.
(c) Legal meetings of companies, clubs, co-operative societies, other organizations and associations.
(d) Social gatherings, and general affairs of clubs, co-operative societies, other societies and associations
(e) Assemblies for the purpose of viewing films, plays or performances in or around cinemas, theaters or any place of public amusement;
(f) Assemblies of people in or around law courts and offices of Government and local bodies for the performance of Government or quasi-Government functions;
(c) Assemblies in or around schools, colleges and other educational institutions for educational activities.
(d) Meetings for general trade, business and appeal in factories, shops, and establishments.
(h) Such other assemblies and processions as may be permitted by the Divisional Deputy Commissioner of Police and his supervising officer.
Commissioner Vishal Thakur emphasized that certain gatherings and processions require approval from the Divisional Deputy Commissioner of Police. Legal proceedings for any violations during the specified period will continue even after the orders expire.
