The state government on Monday said the unprecedented rain has caused widespread disruption, resulting in loss of lives and severe inconvenience to citizens and commuters due to waterlogging, flooding, falling trees, and landslides. It further mentioned that Mumbai has received, in just the last four days, rainfall equivalent to the city’s average for the entire month of July. With a red alert for several places and gusty winds expected, the government urged citizens, especially youngsters, to avoid monsoon tourism at waterfalls, beaches and other tourist spots until the weather improves.
CM warns Opposition
The Opposition demanded a statement from the government, saying several people had lost their lives and many others were facing severe inconvenience due to the heavy rains. In response, Fadnavis said political parties were engaged in a blame game. “If the Opposition wants, I too can speak about the previous regime. But I do not want to do that, as it will not serve any purpose for the families affected by these tragedies,” the chief minister said.
