The Sykes’ nightjar, a bird typically associated with the arid landscapes of northwestern India, has been spotted at Kopar Ganesh Ghat in Dombivli, raising hopes of a significant addition to the region’s bird records. The sighting was reported by Dombivli-based birding enthusiasts on October 29, potentially marking the first record of the species in the area in more than a century.
Sighting confirmed
Bhagat said he uploaded the photographs on eBird, a global bird-recording platform run by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology in the US. The observation was reviewed and validated by an eBird reviewer on the same day, lending further credibility to his sighting.
