Dr RN Cooper Hospital in Mumbai has been hit by a strike by resident doctors and interns, affecting routine patient care. However, the emergency services have been unaffected so far, as departmental lecturers and on-duty residents are not participating in the strike.

In a circular issued on Saturday evening, the hospital administration requested the heads of the departments of medicine, surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, ENT, psychiatry, paediatrics, and obstetrics & gynaecology to ensure the presence of faculty and non-striking residents to manage emergency cases.

The assistant medical officer (AMO), through the senior AMO and medical superintendent, stated that residents and interns are currently unavailable to provide emergency care due to the ongoing strike. Departmental cooperation is being sought to ensure that emergency medical services function smoothly without interruption.

The hospital has urged all the departments to deploy on-call lecturers and available residents to handle emergencies, emphasising patient safety and continuity of critical medical services during the strike.

More details are awaited.
