Writing 31 instead of 13 left a kindergarten student severely bruised, after her teacher rained down blows on the small girl with a ruler. Following the incident, the parents of the student have approached the Gamdevi police and a case has been registered against the teacher.

According to the complaint, Princessa Prashant Bugade (5), who studies at St Columba High School, Nana Chowk, returned home from class on Tuesday with several red bruises on her calves. Initially, when her grandmother asked her how she had sustained the contusion, she refused to disclose the reason. But, after much prodding, she gave in and said that her teacher, Miss Michelle, had beaten her up.
&ldquo;My daughter was very afraid and initially, didn&rsquo;t want to reveal the reason. But, we convinced her and then she said that she had been beaten up by the teacher,&rdquo; said Prashant Bugade, father of Princessa. Bugade said that after the beating, his daughter refused to go to school. &ldquo;Seeing her fear, we approached the principal of the primary section, who then called the teacher to sort out the issue.
But Miss Michelle, immediately, said that my daughter had fallen down and had sustained the bruises. However, the medical report from JJ Hospital categorically states that the bruises were a result of an attack with a blunt object such as a scale or ruler,&rdquo; added Bugade.
Bugade said that he only approached the police because it was unfair that his daughter had been beaten up on the occasion of her first error. &ldquo;If she had made an error, she should have been scolded. But, the very first time she made a mistake, she was beaten with a ruler.&rdquo;
Confirming the complaint, an official from the Gamdevi police station said, &ldquo;We have registered a case under Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) under the Indian Penal Code.&rdquo; The authorities said that only after further investigations would they arrest the teacher. When MiD DAY tried contacting the school, no one was ready to answer the phone or transfer the call to the principal.
