A 25-year-old man has confessed to the police that he had stolen jewellery worth Rs 28.10 lakh and around Rs 4 lakh from a businessman who had hired him as a servant through an advertisement.

The accused is Ajay Mandal alias Chanchal, originally from Bihar. Mandal was arrested by the Crime Branch’s property cell at 7.45 pm on October 10. In April, the businessman Nilesh Gupta (46), a resident of Pedder Road, had published advertisements in Marathi and Hindi newspapers for a servant.
