Seven people were injured on Thursday morning in a collision between a BEST bus and a tempo on Airoli Bridge, officials from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
According to the BMC, the incident was first reported at 10:05 am, with updates received at 12:30 pm from the Assistant Medical Officer (AMO) of Veer Savarkar Hospital, Mulund. All seven injured were taken to the hospital for treatment. Two were admitted to the Male Surgical Ward and are reported to be in stable condition, while five others were treated on an outpatient basis.
BEST officials later clarified that the accident occurred around 6:45 am near the Bhandup Pumping Signal on Vasantrao Naik Marg. The bus, operating on route number 492/31 from Bhoomi Acres in Thane to Majas Depot, was struck by an oncoming tempo (MH-03-CV-8123) traveling from Bhandup towards Vashi.
Two passengers from the bus and five occupants of the tempo sustained injuries. One passenger from the bus and one from the tempo were admitted to Veer Savarkar Hospital, while the remaining five received first aid and were later discharged, the BEST officials said.
According to BEST officials, the injured have been identified as Sagar Rajaram Jadhav (30) and Anandkumar Sairam Sharma (64) from the bus, and Durgadas Nagesh Devkar (54), Rajesh Kumar Mithailal Jaiswal (54), Gulab Chinilal Jaiswal (72), Sanjay Shyamlal Jaiswal (37), and Ramesh Bechenlal Gupta (34), the tempo driver.
The incident has been registered at Navghar Police Station, Mulund, based on the statement of tempo driver Ramesh Gupta. An FIR (No. 432/2025) has been filed against the bus driver Santosh Patil under Sections 125, 125(a), 125(b), and 281 of the Indian Penal Code, and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the collision.
BMW overturns inside Mumbai's Coastal Road tunnel, slows down traffic
In another incident, a speeding BMW car overturned inside a tunnel of Mumbai's Coastal Road, slowing down traffic for a while, officials said on Wednesday.
No one was injured in the accident that took place near Tardeo on the southbound arm of the road on Tuesday night, they said.
A video of the accident went viral on social media.
Mumbai traffic police had alerted motorists about the accident through a post on X.
"Traffic Movement Is Slow At Coastal Road (Tardeo) South Bound Due To BMW Car Accident," they wrote.
The car was removed from the spot by the traffic police. Later, they shared another post about the resumption of vehicular movement on the road.
Officials said a probe into the accident is underway.
Woman killed, man injured as unidentified vehicle hits motorbike in Thane
Meanwhile, a woman was killed and a man suffered injuries when an unidentified vehicle knocked down their motorbike in Maharashtra's Thane city, police said on Monday, reported PTI.
The accident occurred around 11.30 pm on Sunday beneath a skywalk bridge near Vijay Garden housing society on Ghodbunder Road, they said, reported PTI.
The man and the woman were returning from a party when an unidentified vehicle hit their two-wheeler, an official from Kasarwadavali police station said.
The woman, identified as Swati, who was riding pillion, fell under the wheels of the offending vehicle and suffered severe head injuries. She died on the spot, the official said, reported PTI.
The man suffered a fracture in his hand and was rushed to a local hospital, where he is currently undergoing treatment, he said.
The body was shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem.
The police were searching for the offending vehicle and its driver, the official said.
