Following in senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi&rsquo;s footsteps, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-24-7-policy-shiv-sena-ubt-leader-aaditya-thackeray-questions-bjp-over-reintroducing-mumbai-24-7-policy-23597061" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Aaditya Thackeray</a> will be using the big screen to shed light on alleged irregularities in voter lists.
On October 27, Sena (UBT) will organise a meeting for party workers at the NSCI Dome in Worli, during which Aaditya will address the issue, which the Opposition has been highlighting.
Sena (UBT) MP <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bmc-elections-sanjay-raut-bats-for-opposition-unity-ahead-of-civic-polls-asks-congress-to-join-in-saving-mumbai-23599915?sports-football-breakingnews" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Sanjay Raut </a>said, &ldquo;Those who doubt the allegation of errors in voter lists and are asking for evidence should watch the&nbsp; screen carefully.&rdquo;
Last month, Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, held a press conference to demonstrate how names were missing and duplicated in voter lists. The Congress leader also cited alleged cases where hundreds of voters were mentioned as residing at the same address.
After this, the noise over irregularities in the electoral rolls started getting louder. Accordingly, the Opposition in Maharashtra has started coming out with anomalies in the lists.
On November 1, the entire Opposition called for a protest rally against the<a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-state-election-commission-approves-ward-boundaries-ahead-of-bmc-elections-23597415" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> Election Commission</a> (EC) for ignoring their demands to rectify the voter lists and postpone the local body elections till errors are fixed.
The Supreme Court has set January 31, 2026, as the deadline for conducting local body elections across Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra Congress too will be holding a conference on goof-ups in voter lists in Mumbai on Saturday (October 25).

Maharashtra revenue minister <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/maharashtra-minister-finds-hidden-cash-during-anti-corruption-raid-at-nagpur-sub-registrar-office-23597449?mumbai-guide-mumbai-food-article-breakingnews" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Chandrashekar Bawankule</a> slammed the Opposition for &ldquo;spreading false information&rdquo;.
Recently, during a public rally in Bhandara district in Vidarbha region, the minister stated that the WhatsApp group of party workers was under surveillance. &ldquo;Those who indulge in mischief will be shown the door for five years,&rdquo; Bawankule apparently stated during his address to cadres ahead of the upcoming local body polls. Following this, the Opposition immediately launched a fierce attack on the ruling Mahayuti over phone surveillance.
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claimed that besides members from the Opposition camps, even alliance partners&rsquo; phones were being monitored. Raut demanded an inquiry against Bawankule in this connection. &ldquo;Monitoring phones is a misuse of power and a serious crime. Bawankule should be interrogated for his statement,&rdquo; Raut demanded.
However, reacting to the development, Bawankule slammed the Opposition for twisting the entire episode. &ldquo;I was talking about a local WhatsApp group of <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/bmc-elections-mahayuti-to-contest-bmc-poll-as-united-front-23599945?lifestyle-breakingnews" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">BJP </a>party members and not about phone or call recording. I don&rsquo;t understand why the Opposition has to interfere in other parties&rsquo; business, and that too, without understanding the details of the subject,&rdquo; the revenue minister added.
