A unique light and sound cum performance show at CSMT

A mesmerising light and sound show on the occasion of 170 years of Indian Railways and World Heritage Day enthralled audiences. The story of Indian Railways was narrated to nine emotions, Navarasaa with dance light and sound show with 1,100 lights on the building.


Beginning narration by the characters of the founding directors of the first railway company Great Indian Peninsula Railway, Jagannath Sunkersett and Jamshetjee Jeejeebhoy, the event narrated the story from the foundation day to contemporary events, including renaming of Victoria Terminus to Mumbai CSMT. The first train in Asia (and India) ran between Mumbai and Thane on Saturday, April 16, 1853.


Indian Railways enters into 170th year of service to the nation from 16th April 2022. To commemorate the first journey of Railways in India and ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’, and commemorating the Railway Week, Central Railway is presenting a unique light and sound cum performance show on the CSMT heritage building a UNESCO Heritage Site," Central Railway officials said.


The event narrated the story from the foundation day to contemporary events, including the renaming of Victoria Terminus to Mumbai CSMT

Anil Kumar Lahoti, General Manager, Central Railway said that CSMT is a  pride of Indian Railways and entire railway fraternity. "To celebrate the heritage and architecture of this building we staged this unique light and sound cum performance show on the background of this building," he said.

Indian Railways enters into 170th year of service to the nation on 16th April 2022

Navarasangam – ek gatha CSMT ki”, showcases the Indian cultural canvas by 70  artists who are Railway employees. The original audio track has also been created by a team of Railway artists. The production has been prepared after rigorous rehearsals and professional inputs from the fields of lights, music creation and studio recording. The artists would be performing under the aegis of Central Railway Cultural Academy having inclusive participation from headquarters, divisions and workshops.
