If the Western Express Highway (WEH) has become pothole-free and smoothly levelled, you have Prime Minister Narendra Modi to thank. Just a day before the PM&rsquo;s visit to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), the state government authorities fixed the complete stretch of the highway from Mumbai airport&rsquo;s domestic terminal till the new Kalanagar flyover.

Sources in the Public Works Department (PWD) said that they had worked day and night over the past two days and attended to all potholes and levelled uneven roads. An official from PWD said: &ldquo;Whenever a VVIP visit is planned, then we have to spruce up the roads and remove potholes.&rdquo;
Sources in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said that at a few places near the entity&rsquo;s grounds, the roads were uneven and several tar particles were strewn around. This had to be cleaned, so the authorities used a mixture of stone and tar and then levelled the surface using road-rollers.

There were 4-5 PWD vehicles that moved along the road to identify the potholes and fix them. With the city not having witnessed the end of the monsoon, MMRDA covered 4 hectares of its entire ground with a pandal. MMRDA &mdash; headed by the chief minister &mdash; also made grand arrangements for the PM&rsquo;s visit. There were massive speakers and huge TV screens placed on the dais. At BKC, there were more than 600 illegal banners put up by BJP and RPI.
