A police constable on security duty at the Dongri Children’s Home was allegedly assaulted by three inmates, aged between 17 and 18 years, while he was trying to break up a fight between them. The Dongri police have registered a case against the trio in connection with the incident.

According to the police, the complainant, Anil Mundhe, is attached to the Tardeo armed police force. Around 12 pm on Tuesday, he learned that a quarrel had broken out among some inmates. When he intervened to pacify them, one of the boys allegedly grabbed him from behind, another struck him on the face, and the third reportedly abused and threatened to kill him. Other police personnel at the correctional facility rushed to his aid and managed to separate the inmates. Mundhe later lodged a complaint with the Dongri police station.

The case has been filed against the alleged assailants under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for allegedly obstructing a public servant in the discharge of his duties, and assault. A police officer said, “The constable had stepped in only to stop the fight, but the teenagers turned aggressive. The situation was brought under control immediately, and a detailed investigation is underway.” Police have confirmed that the boys involved are from the correctional home’s high-risk section and will be further questioned under the supervision of the Juvenile Justice Board.
