To reduce daily congestion and facilitate emergency vehicle access, the Matunga Traffic Division has announced that Mumbai's Tilak Bridge in Dadar (East) will remain closed to heavy vehicles throughout August.

The restriction will be in effect from 12.01 am on Saturday to 11.55 pm on August 31. During this period, all heavy vehicles will be prohibited from using the bridge.

To ensure smooth traffic flow, diversion routes have been planned. Heavy vehicles approaching from the southbound direction on Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road towards Tilak Bridge must take a right turn at Sion Hospital Junction, continue on Sulochana Shetty Marg, then take a left at Kumbharwada Junction.

From there, vehicles should proceed along T. S. Kataria Marg, cross Kataria Bridge, pass Shobha Hotel, take a left onto L. J. Road, move past Sena Bhavan, and finally take another left onto N. C. Kelkar Marg towards Plaza Cinema, before continuing to their destination.

Vehicles coming from the northbound side of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Road should go straight towards Maheshwari Circle and Arora Junction, then take a left at Sion Hospital Junction. They will follow the same diversion route as above through Sulochana Shetty Marg, Kumbharwada Junction, T. S. Kataria Marg, Kataria Bridge, Shobha Hotel, L. J. Road, Sena Bhavan, and N. C. Kelkar Marg to Plaza Cinema.

Motorists are urged to adhere to the revised routes, follow traffic signs, and cooperate with the traffic police for smoother movement during the closure period.

Eleven key roads in Dadar, Mahim, Dharavi set for major overhaul

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to undertake an overhaul of 11 major roads in the areas of Prabhadevi, Mahim, and Dharavi. These include roads around the busy Dadar junction, the Dadar market, and densely populated commercial areas in Dharavi.

The project will be implemented on a pilot basis starting this October in the G North Ward, which comprises Dadar, Mahim, Dharavi, and Prabhadevi. Over several weeks, the civic body shortlisted these roads based on three key parameters: Roads that offer end-to-end connectivity across busy areas and commercial districts with high foot traffic, where pedestrians often walk for last-mile connectivity.
