Mumbai Police on Wednesday issued the details on speed limit on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), officially named the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, which is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 12.
In an official notification, the Mumbai Police said that the maximum speed limit for four-wheelers on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link will be 100 kmph, while motorbikes, auto rickshaws, etc will not be allowed on the sea bridge.

According to the police, cars, taxis, light motor vehicles (LMVs), minibuses and two-axle buses will have a speed limit of 100 kilometres per hour. The speed will be restricted to 40 kmph on the ascend and descend of the bridge.
The notification said, "To prevent danger, obstruction and inconvenience to the public it is necessary to issue a permanent notification till further orders to fix speed limits on the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link and also restrict the movement of heavy vehicles from Mumbai Trans Harbour Link to Eastern Freeway from January 12 till further orders."

The MTHL originates from Sewri in the eastern suburbs of Mumbai and terminates at Nhava Sheva in Uran taluka of Raigad district in Maharashtra.
Multi-axle heavy vehicles, trucks and buses heading towards Mumbai will not have an entry on the Eastern Freeway, the notification said.
These vehicles will have to use the Mumbai Port-Sewri Exit (Exit 1C) and take the MBPT Road near 'Gadiadda' for further movement, it said.
The motorcycles, mopeds, three-wheelers, autos, tractors, animal-drawn vehicles and slow-moving vehicles would be restricted on the MTHL, it further said.
The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, also called as Atal Setu which is named after former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 12, the Maharashtra CMO had earlier said.
The MTHL is a 6-lane sea link, with 16.50 kilometres of the stretch on the sea and 5.5 km on land.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra CM Shinde on Saturday visited the sea bridge in Navi Mumbai ahead of its inauguration by the prime minister, the CMO had earlier said in a release.
"This project would help cover the distance between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai in just 20 minutes which otherwise takes 2 hours. This would provide a big relief to residents of Mumbai as they would be free of traffic snarls," the release quoted CM Eknath Shinde as saying, according to release.
