Two college students from Goregaon, who had gone to Chinchoti Waterfall in Naigaon for a picnic with a group of friends, drowned while swimming on Monday; four others were rescued. The deceased have been identified as Prem Pralhad Shahjarao, 22, and Sushil Bharat Dhabale, 24. Both were residents of Ashok Nagar in Goregaon East.

The four rescued have been identified as Amit Ravindra Yadav, 19; Vilas Kadam, 19; Subhash Sabodh Sarkar, 19; and Pawan Ashok Pandey, 19. All are residents of Goregaon. A police officer said, “Constable Mahesh Bodke from the local police station rushed to the spot following the incident and informed the fire department. Upon reaching the site after trekking for nearly two hours, officials found that six young men, all students from Goregaon, had entered the waterfall between 9 am and 11 am.”

According to the fire officials from the Vasai Phata Sub-Fire Station, the department received a distress call around 1.48 pm about dead bodies at the site. Following this, a team of Officer Deepak Bhoir and firemen Niket Patil, Prasad Vishe, and Kalpesh Patil reached the waterfall. A fire engine was also dispatched, and the team completed the rescue of the other students by 7.19 pm, said officials.

One of the bodies was retrieved from the stream, while the second was pulled out using a rope. The bodies were handed over to Assistant Police Inspector Balram Palkar of the local police, said an official from the fire department.
