Police has arrested two motorbike riders for racing motorbikes on the <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/navi-mumbai-ugandan-woman-booked-for-cheating-23301186" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Western Express Highway</a> in Mumbai and seized stolen motorbikes from their possession, an official told news agency PTI on Tuesday.
According to PTI, the accused were identified as Salman Khan (29) and Ashfaq Iqbal Sheikh (20).
Police recovered 11 mobile phones and four motorbikes including three sports-bikes from the two motorbike riders, who were were racing motorbikes on the Western Express Highway, possession.
The duo has cases registered against them at different police stations including in <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-crime-32-year-old-man-stabbed-to-death-over-personal-enmity-one-held-23301189" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Thane</a> and Palghar districts, police sub-inspector Vishal Palande told PTI.
"They were arrested under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code including section 379 (theft) and produced before a court which remanded them in police custody. Further investigation is underway," the official told PTI.
In another incident, One person was killed and another was injured when their car was hit by an SUV driven by an allegedly drunk man in the early hours of Monday, a police official told PTI.
The incident took place near Sagar Villa building along Bhulabhai Desai Road in south Mumbai at 1.35 am, he said.
"Car driver Anshukumar Rai (22) died, while one occupant was seriously injured. The SUV was driven by insurance agent Raunak Ganatra (26) who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol," the official told PTI.
Ganatra tried to flee from the spot but was nabbed by police with the help of people in the vicinity and placed under arrest, he added.
He has been charged under Indian Penal Code and Motor Vehicles Act provisions for culpable homicide, endangering life by driving negligently, drunk driving and other offences, the Gamdevi police station official told PTI.
Meanwhile, a man was nabbed on Sunday night shortly after he stabbed and injured his 35-year-old estranged wife over a marital dispute in Mumbai, police told PTI.
The incident occurred after the woman stepped out of the residence of her employer in suburban Khar, an official told PTI.
The woman received injuries in her neck, the official said, adding the attacker was picked up from his home in Dharavi.
The injured woman was rushed to a nearby hospital where she is recuperating and her condition is stated to be stable.
A case of attempt to murder was registered and further investigation is underway, the official told PTI.
