In an effort to ensure seamless and timely declaration of results for the winter examinations, Mumbai University has decided to operate its Centralised Assessment Process (CAP) centres on weekends and public holidays too.

The CAP centres, scheduled to run from 7 am to 8 pm, aim to accelerate the evaluation of answer papers and streamline the result declaration process. Specific instructions have been issued to colleges under the varsity to enhance the scrutiny of answer papers. Institutes are directed to check 1.5 times the number of answer papers as compared to the total student enrollment for a particular subject, to ensure a thorough evaluation for overall accuracy and reliability.

Dr Prasad Karande, director of the examination and assessment committee, said, “For those teachers who will be going to other colleges to asses answer booklets, computer labs will be made available on the basis of their identification card for the onscreen marking (OSM) of the papers.”

MU official Vinod Malale said, “Almost every college affiliated with the university is a CAP centre. Previously, the colleges used to run these centres on the basis of their college timings, but this year, we have instructed them to run the centres from 7 am to 8 pm, so that teachers can go to the centres before or after college hours to assess papers. On weekends and public holidays, teachers can go to the CAP centre closest to their homes.” He added that each teacher is provided with a unique login ID and password which can be accessed from any CAP centre.

“It is essential to recognise the collaborative effort required from both the university administration and individual colleges to successfully implement these measures. While challenges persist, the proactive steps demonstrate a commitment to academic integrity,” an MU official said.
