A vacant MHADA building in Byculla West fully collapsed early Monday morning, though no injuries have been reported, according to the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB).

The incident was reported at 2:02 am on August 3, 2025. The structure, identified as the Madanpura Post Office Building—a ground-plus-three (G+3) construction—had already been vacated due to its classification as a C1 category building, marking it as highly dilapidated and dangerous for occupancy.

Initially, the rear portions of the first and third floors had collapsed. However, by 11:36 am on August 4, officials confirmed that the entire building had given way.

Emergency response teams, including personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, MHADA, and BMC ward staff, along with an 108 ambulance, were quickly mobilised to the site. MHADA staff remained present at the location to assess the situation.

Authorities have confirmed that no injuries occurred in the incident.

Four homes declared dangerous, evacuated after Thane wall collapse

The civic officials said that four houses were declared dangerous and evacuated as a precautionary measure after a house wall located adjoining them collapsed in the early hours of July 28 in Thane city, reported news agency PTI.

No one was injured in the wall collapse incident at Wagle Estate in Thane (W), they said.

Though no casualties were reported, four houses were declared dangerous and evacuated as a precautionary measure, according to Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) Disaster Management Cell chief Yasin Tadvi, reported PTI.

Tadvi said the incident took place at around 1.30 am, where the wall of a house owned by one Shakuntala Yadav collapsed onto the wall of an adjacent house owned by Pandurang Padekar, and debris also fell into a nearby drain, reported PTI.

"Upon inspection, it was found that the remaining structure of the collapsed house and three adjoining houses were in a dangerous condition. Immediate preventive steps were taken to avoid any accident," he said, reported PTI.

Tadvi added, "We immediately evacuated all four houses as a safety measure and advised the affected residents to temporarily take shelter with their relatives living nearby. This is to prevent any injuries in case of further structural failure."

Further structural action and permanent remedial measures will be undertaken by the Wagle Ward Committee and the Civil Construction Department, he informed.

State-run utility Mahavitaran's officials were called in to inspect for any electrical hazards near the affected homes, the civic officer added.
