Mumbai: Vile Parle cops rearrest accused who escaped from custody at police station

A 38-year-old housebreaker, Imran Istiyak Ansari, escaped from Vile Parle police custody while being fingerprinted. Mumbai cops launched a manhunt and traced him near Terminal 9, rearresting him the same night. A fresh FIR was registered against him for the escape

A 38-year-old housebreaker accused of escaping from police custody after he was brought from the Arthur Road jail to the Vile Parle police station for investigation. However, cops traced the accused and rearrested him. 

The accused Imran Istiyak Ansari, alias Yash Dakore (38) was arrested in housebreaking and theft cases. The fresh FIR was registered against the accused, Ansari, by the constable Naresh Kurbude (38), who is attached to the Vile Parle police station. 


According to police officials, on November 25, the accused, Ansari, was brought from Arthur Road Jail by Police Inspector Sachin Mandole for questioning. Ansari was sent to judicial custody at Arthur Road Jail in connection with housebreaking and theft cases.



A police officer said, "Ansari was earlier arrested by Meghwadi police for alleged involvement in housebreaking cases, and Vile Parle police are seeking his custody. On November 25, Vile Parle police secured custody from the Andheri court. Ansari was brought to Vile Police Station for questioning by the officer at around 3.45 pm."

"Ansari was kept inside the room for fingerprints. When the officer reached in the room, he was missing. When cops checked CCTV cameras, they found Ansari had fled in the direction of the Orchid hotel. 

The Vile Parle police formed a team of Police Inspector Satish Ingle, Chevle, Assistant Police Inspectors Mahesh Kadam and Avinash Rakshe, Constable Nitin Salunkhe, Woman Constable Anuradha Ranpise, Mangaldas Padave, and the team began a search operation.

Around 9 pm, Constable Vishal Ahir spotted Ansari hiding in the dark near the hydraulic parking area at the corner of the Terminal 9 building. He was immediately taken into custody and brought back to the police station. The cops registered another FIR and rearrested him.
