The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday announced a 15 per cent water cut in parts of Mumbai on December 8-9.
The Mumbai civic body stated that a major water pipeline supplying the Bhandup Water Purification Plant will be replaced, leading to a 15 per cent water cut across 17 administrative wards in city.
The water cut will be in effect from 10 am, on Monday, December 8, 2025 to 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
According to the BMC, the 2,750 mm diameter Tansa water pipeline, which carries water from the Tansa Dam to the Bhandup treatment plant, needs to be replaced.
The old pipeline will be removed and a new one will be installed. This work will require around 24 hours, during which there will be a reduction in the water supply reaching the treatment plant.
As a result, 17 wards across the city will face a 15 per cent reduction in water supply. These include the following areas-
Wards in city: A, C, D, G South, G North
Wards in western suburbs: H East, H West, K East, K West, P South, P North, R South, R North, R Central
Wards in eastern suburbs: N, L, S
Earlier, the water cut was planned for December 3-4, 2025, but the BMC postponed the work because lakhs of followers were expected to visit Mumbai for Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Mahaparinirvan Din, and the civic body wanted to avoid inconvenience to visitors.
The BMC has now rescheduled the work to December 8-9.
The civic administration has appealed to residents of the affected areas to store sufficient water, use water carefully during these two days, and cooperate with the municipality.
