<p>The <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-to-face-5-pc-water-cut-from-april-20-27-for-tunnel-maintenance-23626095" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation</a> (BMC) on Sunday night reported a water pipeline leakage in central Mumbai&rsquo;s Prabhadevi area, prompting swift response from civic authorities.</p>
<p>According to the BMC, the incident was recorded at around 9:40 pm on Bhausaheb Todankar Marg near Elphinstone Bridge after inputs were received by the ward control room. Officials stated that the leakage has occurred in a 150 mm diameter water pipeline.</p>
<h2>Repairs expected by Monday morning</h2>
<p><a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbais-civic-body-requests-additional-supply-as-lake-levels-dip-to-33-pc-ahead-of-monsoon-23626316" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">The BMC</a> said repair work is currently underway and is likely to be completed by Monday morning. Information provided by Superintendent Engineer (Water Works) Shailesh Kadam indicated that teams have been deployed to address the issue and restore normal water supply at the earliest.</p>
<h2>Ongoing bridge work in vicinity</h2>
<p>Civic officials further noted that infrastructure work is ongoing in the area. Foundation work for the MSRDC bridge is being carried out by railway authorities near the affected location, which may have added complexity to the repair operations.</p>
<h2>Areas around Prabhadevi station affected</h2>
<p>The BMC confirmed that water supply in areas surrounding <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-mayor-orders-steps-to-ensure-uninterrupted-summer-water-supply-23624133" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">Prabhadevi</a> railway station has been impacted due to the leakage. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely to minimise inconvenience to residents.</p>

<h2>Mumbai to face 5 pc water cut from April 20-27 for tunnel maintenance</h2>
<p>The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a temporary 5 per cent reduction in water supply across several parts of the city and eastern suburbs from April 20 to April 27, 2026, due to essential maintenance work on key water tunnels.</p>
<p>According to the BMC, <a href="https://www.mid-day.com/mumbai/mumbai-news/article/mumbai-water-supply-to-be-disrupted-in-bandra-khar-and-santacruz-as-bmc-undertakes-pipeline-work-23622220" target="_blank" rel="none noopener">the work</a> will involve charging, flushing, chlorination, and dechlorination of Water Tunnel No. 1 (AMT-1) and Water Tunnel No. 2 (AMT-2), both of which play a crucial role in Mumbai&rsquo;s water distribution network.</p>
<p>Water Tunnel No. 1 supplies water from Amar Mahal (Hegdewar Garden) to Wadala (Pratiksha Nagar) and further to Parel (Sadakant Dhavan Garden). Meanwhile, Water Tunnel No. 2 runs from Amar Mahal to the Trombay Low-Level and High-Level Reservoirs, ensuring continuous water supply to key areas.</p>
<p>The civic body stated that these maintenance operations are necessary to ensure the long-term efficiency and safety of the water supply system.</p>
<p>The BMC said the 5 per cent water cut will affect several wards in the eastern suburbs, including L (Kurla East), M East, M West, N, S, and T wards.</p>
<p>In addition, parts of south and central Mumbai under A, B, C, E, F North, and F South wards will also experience reduced water supply during the same period.</p>
