Mumbai weather: IMD issues orange alert as June ends with 18–22% rainfall deficit

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai till Saturday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Despite the forecast, Mumbai rainfall in June 2026 ended below normal, with Colaba and Santacruz recording deficits of 18% and 22%, respectively

Mumbai is bracing for another spell of heavy to very heavy rain, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing an orange alert for the city every day till Saturday. Yet, despite the wet week ahead, June has ended with a significant rainfall deficit, highlighting an erratic start to this year’s southwest monsoon.

According to IMD data, Colaba recorded 441 mm of rainfall in June, about 18 per cent below normal, while Santacruz logged 416.4 mm, a deficit of around 22 per cent.
