Western Railway has taken another step toward improving commuter convenience by opening a newly constructed elevated deck at Khar Road railway station in Mumbai, officials said.
The deck was officially commissioned on July 28, 2025.
The elevated deck is 95 metres long and 11.5 metres wide, and it is built above Platform No. 1. It connects the two southernmost Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), which helps ease the flow of passengers and reduces crowding on the platforms, said officials.
As part of this upgrade, a new booking office has been added on the upper deck. This office includes five ticket counters and a spacious queuing area, designed with modern passenger comforts including aesthetic lighting, ceiling fans, two-way escalators and staircases and clean passenger amenities.
In a smart move, the old booking office’s queuing space has been transformed into a Self-Ticketing Zone. The passengers can quickly buy tickets using digital and smart ticketing options, helping to save time and reduce long queues.
"Western Railway remains committed to enhancing infrastructure and providing world-class facilities for the public," said an official.
