A woman lost her left arm in a road accident after she came under a truck, the police said. The incident took place around 5 pm on Saturday near the Samrat Hotel on the Western Express Highway near Mira-Bhayandar

The woman, identified as Varsha Joshi, was riding pillion on a two-wheeler with her husband, Hitesh Joshi. The accident occurred when they attempted to overtake a truck, lost balance, and fell off the scooter. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed in the area. Following the accident, she was rushed to the nearby Orbit Hospital; however, despite efforts by doctors to save the limb, they were unable to reattach her arm due to severe damage.

A police officer said, “While overtaking the truck from the left side, there was an autorickshaw parked on the road. Hitesh Joshi got stuck between the auto and the truck, which caused them to fall. Varsha Joshi fell under the moving truck, and her left hand was crushed under the rear wheel.”

A doctor from Orbit Hospital told mid-day, “We tried to reattach the arm, but the damage was extensive, and there was no sensation left. Because of this, we were unable to save it. The woman has lost her arm. She is currently in the ICU, and her condition is stable.”

The Kashimira police have registered an FIR against the truck driver and initiated an investigation. “We registered an FIR against the truck driver and released him after serving a notice,” said a police officer.
