A Mumbai Sessions court on Thursday sentenced Parvati Taksalkar to six years of imprisonment for killing her husband, Assistant Police Inspector Nandkishor Taksalkar.

Officers had been shocked over a year ago, when she had walked into the Powai police station with her son, her clothes stained with blood, and announced, &ldquo;I have killed my husband, his body is at our house.&rdquo;
The judgement was given by Judge D W Deshpande. Parvati was sentenced under Section 304 (2) (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), to six years of imprisonment though the case was registered under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal code. There were 16 witnesses.
Married to an alcoholic On April 28, 2013, Parvati, (then 36), beat and killed her husband Nandkishor, (43), with a hammer and kadappa (granite stone) in front of their son Satish, at their house in Marol police camp in Andheri. She then locked the door and left for Powai police station, where she surrendered.

Nandkishor Taksalkar was an alcoholic. Police say he used to beat her up many times, as he was always suspicious of her character. If Parvati so much as spoke to another man, he would fight with her and assault her. After Parvati arrived at the police station and announced what she had done, a team was immediately dispatched to her residence.
For both the Taksalkars, this was their second marriage. Parvati has two children with her first husband, of which Satish is one. On the night before the crime, the couple had been involved in a terrible fight, after which, around 1 am, they went to the police station. The police asked them to stay at the station. Afterwards, Taksalkar apologised to Parvati several times in front of the officers, and promised such a thing would never happen again.
But, soon after they reached home, Taksalkar started drinking and a violent fight erupted again. Around 3 the next afternoon, a heavily drunk Taksalkar went to sleep. But Parvati, delirious with rage, took the stone from the kitchen and bashed him on the head.
She then brought a hammer and hit him in front of Satish. Taksalkar, attached to the Local Arms Unit IV, was an officer from the 1996 batch of Mumbai Police. He had served in four police stations earlier. His son from his first wife stays at Bhandup.
