State’s daily tally hits 2,172 as MMR sees 77 per cent rise in cases

Tuesday witnessed an almost 70 per cent increase in fresh Covid cases in the city at 1,377 compared to Monday’s 809. With this, the test positivity rate jumped to 4.25 per cent. However, the doubling rate continued to decrease and was 841 days on Tuesday. An increase in fresh infections in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) to 1,680 pushed up the state’s number to 2,172.
The city registered 1,377 cases after 32,369 tests were conducted on Tuesday. On Monday, the city had reported 809 new cases after conducting 43,383 tests, and had a TPR of 1.86 per cent. The lowest TPR of the second wave was 0.28 per cent on December 1.
